Survivor

"She's beautiful isn't she?" the elderly woman asks me as her dog plops down on my foot. "I think she survived because she's short" she continues with a chuckle. I ask her if her home is OK and she tells me it is - "just some water in the basement and my son pumped it out right away."

"Let me see the pictures you took." I pull up my first shot of the morning and hand her the camera. She studies each one, nodding and smiling. "I like this one the best" she tells me handing the camera back with this photo on the screen. "You should show that one to people, there's still beauty around here - it's not all heartache." I tell her I will and give her a hug.

Follow That Sky

My granddaughter Hope once told me that "the sky at the beach is much bigger"

We had some crazy skies last week. Sunny and hot one moment, dark and stormy the next
I saw the dark clouds in the distance and drove down to the beach to see them bigger

In the distance of some shots you can see lower Manhattan and the Verrazano-Narrows bridge connecting Staten Island to Brooklyn
In others there's a dilapidated pier near Sandy Hook and a water tower (just for DARYL) and an amusement park
I'd like to thank the wonderful lady and her pink bow spear for picking up trash off the beach as she took a walk

At a nearby beach there are 3 fences between parking and the water.

At Night He Comes Alive

hark, now hear the sailors cry,
smell the sea, and feel the sky
let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic...

Still Summer

It's been exceptionally warm here in NJ the past week or so and although it's been raining a lot there are moments when the sun comes blazing out. It's a bit like two different days in one.

The shore area is still busy. One of my favorite shore restaurants continues to be crowded and the deck is open.

The sun came out long enough to start setting.

Mid Week Blues: "Is It Open Yet?"

Every spring I take my neighbor's grandson to a local amusement park. As soon as the weather starts to get warmer and sunnier he asks "is it open yet?" every time he sees me.

I promised him I would go check if it was open yet. These shots were taken right before this weekend's storm. I hope they didn't suffer too much damage, they are right on the water.

They usually open in late March/early April.
