Its roof is falling over and the weed and brush surrounding it is so high and dense that I couldn't get close enough to see what state the rest of it is in.
I hope the owners are simply waiting for the spring to take care of this. It's a pretty little structure and should be cared for.
One other odd thing - all those windows have plain ugly shades blocking them. It's a beautiful day and you face the beach, why would you cover your windows like that?

You're right though, someone really should take better care of the gazebo - that would be a selling point for the place if it isn't being lived in yet!!!

In my old neighborhood people I knew never opened their curtains. I couldn't stand not being able to see out.

My brother, Gary was married in a gazebo one rainy afternoon and it was so romantic.
The patter of the falling rain on the gazebo's roof was music to our ears and perfect for a wedding!
Just like the windows of heaven were opened and showering down blessings on the marriage.
If Cherie is right and they thought that you and your right hand[your camera] were spies, maybe they will clean up their act and fix the poor ailing gazebo and open up their house's shaded windows to let the sun stream in!.......

What time of day was it? I do close the blinds for an hour in the morning because the rising sun blinds me as I pass it or if I sit in my armchair for a while. But I do open them after the sun is all the way up.

I'd call that an excellent question. About the windows I mean. If it were only a few of the windows I could come up with something convincing enough, but it's every single one.
Maybe they're vampires.
sepia certainly enhances the forlorn impression.
If you ever find the answer to why, you need to repost this and let us know. I am with Mojo--if it was just some, I would say someone has to sleep of the day or something, but you wouldn't shut every single one.

The poor thing most definitely looks abandoned but in good enough shape that some easy repairs could save it from total wrack and ruin.
Is the other place vacated? Is that why the windows are covered? Perhaps they use it as a summer place?
Maybe it's a house where nobody lives ...

I'm trying to figure out where this is. You say "beach" and I see gazebo and I think of the Jersey Shore. In the 19th century, the Jersey Shore was where the elegant people went. Love all the classical elements in your photo that look so good in sepia.

Hi ~ I love this photo! It reminds me of a different era - of the 'Great Gatsby' days. It is a great setting for a story. If I were still teaching I would have used this as a story starter idea - hope you update us in the Summer as to the occupants and if the shades go up then!
