How a sheep thinks is beyond me. After, you were the one with the camera, so why turn away from you is a mystery. I think the front is the more flattering to the ewe than the back side. Not that the sheep cares even a bit about photographic style...
Interesting gentle creatures. We just got back from a long awaited trip to Ireland and must have seen a zillion sheep there. I avoided the mutton though... :)
