A Gentleman at the Marina

There is a lovely marina about 15 minutes from me. The area has been renovated and there is a gazebo and more parking and a long walkway. A lot of the original wood was salvaged and reused so it maintains its original organic charm.

I go to the marina often, sometimes early in the morning to watch the fishing boats leave.
There are many salty old sailor type guys hanging around. They wave and hoot and call me "girlie". They always want to add "a little spirit" to my coffee. The make me laugh and are actually quite sweet in their own rowdy way.

Now and then I see this man who stays to himself. He is well dressed and walks with an air of grace and peace. He nods to me and smiles slightly. Sometimes he tips his hat. Although I am a very demonstrative chatty person I just nod back and smile. Once I tipped an imaginary hat to him and he chuckled softly. He never breaks stride yet I always get a warm feeling from him.

I have asked the others about him and have been told many stories but then I decided his story was simply his own and I take him in at face value.

It is more than enough.

He is a gentleman.

That is a wonderful photo, Dianne! It really captures this man's character and quietness. And I love his bright jacket contrasted with the muted color of his hat and the pier around him. It really pops. :)

I love the way you see this man.. through the lens and through your thought process. And I think you're right to maintain his privacy.. except for the photo, that is. And it's a wonderful shot.

Great post. A pic is worth a thousand words. And do you take their suggestion and add a little "spirit?" Cheers!!

The gentleman in the photo looks like he has many stories to tell though. Taking his walks in solitude must be his meditation time. This is a great picture.

What a neat post! He looks like a gentleman. I love everything about the story, from that you enjoy hanging out at a working marina (so do we) to that you love people-watching and making stories in your head!
