Designing Squirrels
I was taking photos of some holiday displays near the marina when I heard a scuffle going on.
In a corner of the main square I saw strands of lights moving and pieces of a nearby tree falling into a basement window well.
On a bed of Halloween and Thanksgiving scraps this holiday minded sweetie was decorating for the latest round of celebrations.
I'm going back right before New Years to see if he's got hats and noise makers.
I called the Garden Club who maintains the display and they told me the owner of the building knows the squirrels are there and has even made sure the heating vent is clear so they have warmth. Seems they do this every year and usually move back into the park once the foot traffic slows down and their food supply from messy kids dries up. Members of the club and people from the animal control center check up on them.

Santa Don't Play Like That
With all the nonsense about a 'war on Christmas' and how poor hardworking people in stores shouldn't say 'Happy Holidays' and on and on and yada yada yada ...
This is the kind of thing I find offensive.

Santa Puddle
Giant inflatable decorations are all the rage here in the burbs. I'm so glad my neighbors don't have one of them, they make an awful whirring/whooshing sound all night.
During the day there are puddles of them all over lawns throughout town.
My granddaughter Hope was appalled the first time she saw one. "Santa melted!" she cried out. Now, at the wise old age of 3, she plays a game of trying to figure out what they'll look like inflated.
Next week I'll share some fully formed Santas.

Santa Is Busy
Keyport, NJ is a lovely little town near me. It has a great main street full of small shops and restaurants as well as a thriving marina and water front park.
I visit there often; there's always something going on.

Santa
This is the Santa that my granddaughter Hope sees everyday. He lives right across the street. Hope waves to him and blows him kisses every single time she sees him. Sometimes she peeks through the front window blinds and just giggles while she looks at him.
We should all remember to have such a sense of wonder and joy. Reminding us of this is the gift children give us.

We are well into the 90 Days of Christmas. Displays and commercials appeared before Halloween.
All the stores are having "super sales" and "uber sales" and "open early/close late" and .... blah-blah-blah
It's so obnoxious.

Looking at the Sky on Friday: Christmas Eve Pilgrimage
The trip from New Jersey to Brooklyn is never an easy one. If only Staten Island would get out of the way ...
But on Christmas Eve. As Santa would say - Oy!
The skies were gray - at times very dark - and the rain was on and off.
It took 3 hours to get from my house in Central, NJ to my brother's house in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
One entire hour was spent on the approach to the Goethals's toll plaza. The people in the car behind us got out and walked their dog.
I like how the gray skies provide a backdrop for the urban blight and the traffic lights.

Ruby Tuesday: O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
I put up the Christmas tree Saturday. I love pulling out the old ornaments.
So for this RUBY TUESDAY before Christmas I'd like to share some of the day and the tree and its ornaments with you.
Siren is very helpful.
The snow people were the first to jump out of the Rubbermaid tubs.
Mia was livin' large hangin' with the snow people.
This plaque is brand new. It was a birthday present.
Here we see Mrs. Santa and the lover she took since her husband is never around on Christmas Eve.
Mia and Siren have Christmas stockings. The little blue ball (hehehehe) is an ornament my son made 30 years ago.
Siren is still helping. Here he is reading the instructions for the new-fangled card hanger thingie.
One of my favorite places to shop was B. Altman's Department store. It was on 34th Street and Park Avenue. They would put ornaments on your packages.
I believe the building has recently been converted into 112 Korean run nail salons.

I love these kindly faces.
This ornament plays 3 Elvis Christmas songs while yellow lights flash. Classy!
I made this ornament. Yes me - it's 47 years old and just a bit balding.
This little tree is hand made. I got it at a Christmas craft fair from a guy who offered to share his joint with me.
This Rudy toy plays 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and his red nose flashes. It was a gift for donating to UNICEF.
Santa and the Nutcracker belonged to my Mom. They're both older than me!
The angel belonged to Nana. Although she was Jewish she always put up a tree because it made my Grandfather (who was Christian) happy.
And here's the tree - in all its glory.
Regardless of what you believe or how you celebrate it is lovely to have something pretty and full of light in your home. I have my tree and Nana's Menorah.
