On The Avenue

On a recent trip to Brooklyn I took 4th Avenue down to Park Slope and then 5th Avenue back to the Verrazano Bridge.

Both avenues take you through Bay Ridge and Sunset Park, down to Park Slope and on to Downtown Brooklyn and the court district.

4th Avenue is a busy 6 lane thoroughfare; 2 lanes in each direction and 1 parking lane on each side.
5th Avenue is one lane is each direction and is a huge shopping area.

and then I had to wait to go home to NJ

Yo! Mouse

I was stuck in slow traffic behind a mini-van on a one lane road.

Virtually bumper to bumper, for miles and miles, this Mickey Mouse decal taunted me.

I added some grain and tint to the shot to compensate for how dirty the van window was.

You Lookin' At Me?

When I took this shot I was focused on the giant thingie they had in the back. It looked like it was trying to pry open the back door.

When I uploaded the shot I noticed the reflections of the sky had combined with the dirty window to create an interesting texture and the overhead wire reflections were a nice little touch as well.

I'm hoping you all see something more in the left side of the window. Don't know where it came from.

Going Home

You can almost reach out and touch the majestic Verrazano Narrows Bridge connecting me in NJ to my family in Brooklyn.

Yet on Christmas Eve it took 90 minutes to reach the bridge.

Oh well ...

It's Cooler Under the Chair

I took this shot in July on one of those dreadful hot days.

These seats are at the edge of a tiny traffic island in the middle of a really busy intersection of several state routes.

If the heat doesn't kill ya a tractor trailer will.

At the "T"

I love a white picket fence and a giant tree. Look how the sun shines on the tree top.

Like many towns across the country my town never expected to be home to so many people. People in cars. NJ is infamous for its dark roads and confusing signage.

The lovely fence and its leafy friend live at the end of a busy road. A "T" intersection where making a left can be tricky.

Originals - people who were born in the town - say this fence has been taken out several times over the years.

Hopefully little red reflections help

Driving Miss Doggie

I took this shot while sitting in Memorial Day Weekend traffic.

This sweetie was looking forward to getting to the shore.

There is a great new TV show called Dogs in the City that deals with a dog trainer and his experiences with dogs in need and their people. I wrote up the show Here on my wordy-ish blog

Green

But green's the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree

Objects In The Mirror ...

... should back the hell off

I despise tailgaters

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Photo Trippin'

I was on an excruciatingly slow line at the DMV inspection station when I noticed the wonky reflection the tail lights of the car ahead of me cast on my hood. Add odd blue lighting from above and it made for some entertaining moments.

I wish I could have taken more shots but I was told to stop the moment the security guard saw my camera. I suppose there's a huge risk for terrorism at DMV stations - from consumers of course.

Finally back home with my deemed safe vehicle I took the original shot ...

... and had a little fun trying to recreate what I was imagining as I sat in line.

This last shot surprised me. I have no idea where that Free something sign was. I never saw it.

Just Say No to drugs kids, go photo trippin' instead.

Sudden Summer Storm

I was on a 2 lane state route headed home one afternoon last week when the skies darkened and the clouds burst open.

It had been unbearably hot all day and I expected thunderstorms but this was epic. The dark was like midnight in the forest and the raindrops were huge, bordering on hail. I wanted to change lanes to get away from the blinding light of the truck behind (and too close) me but it was impossible to see.

At a red light I took advantage of the still moment to try and be artsy.

"Come Back Human"

I was stopped at a light when a car pulled up along side and a young man got out of the back and crossed the street; my eyes were immediately drawn to the scene taking place in the car ...

Hey, where did he go?

"Bye-Bye"

I post this as homage to DARYL who posts wonderful animal pics each Saturday in her series called "Waiting Impatiently"
If you don't think NYers love their pups then check out her posts

Note: Kay mentioned in her comment that she was concerned that the dog was left alone in a closed car. He wasn't. The driver was in the car and had just pulled over at the red light to let out the passenger.

Sunday Ride

ruby tuesday is below

On a beautiful Sunday morning a few weeks ago I took a ride into northern NJ looking at foliage. There were a lot of cyclists out and about. I got a few shots of these three as we waited at an intersection ...
