Ruby Tuesday: If You Love Someone Set Them Free ... From Valentine's Day

I know it is the Ruby Tuesday before Valentine's Day but ya know - I'm just not a fan of Valentine's Day. I like spontaneous shows of affection and meaningful gifts given for no reason.

I just came from Mary's beautiful Valentine post and her blog is so wonderfully decorated and I do feel a bit like a Grinch - a miserable love-less Grinch (hehehehehe) but really I'm not.

I went to the huge Hallmark store near me yesterday. Good Lord! How much useless crap can they fit into a store full of men huffing and puffing and wondering if anything they buy will be romantic enough.

So I grabbed a couple of Hannah Montana recordable cards and got the hell out of there - I plan on putting very naughty messages on them - now that's LOVE

And then I went to the beach ...

All the Ruby Tuesday gang are hanging out HERE so drop by and tell them that you love them - just because.

I agree with you about the Hallmark stores...it's
scary in there! Your RT shots are perfect. You found a lot of red and did a great job photographing it. I love the birds on the fence with the netting behind them. Great angle. Enjoy the day.

Ah, the beach - you know it's ALWAYS where I want to be! I consider Valentine's Day to be a made-up Hallmark holiday that's sort of damaging to women - let us resist the temptation to measure our own worth by whether or not some dude gives us flowers and candy!

Love the crabby drawn on - the pavement? Happy Tuesday!

linnea - thanks :)
I like the 2 birds too - one looks like he's trying to talk to the one who is ignoring him

tink - a woman after my own heart!! you got Val Day spot on.
the crab is drawn on the paved walkway leading to the beach entrance - they also have them at the parking spots - a local school did them as an art project

Love it!

And I am so with you regarding V-Day...

Big fan of the sidewalk art there :)

I'm not a fan of Hallmark stores either, Dianne. I already have tons of useless stuff given to me by relatives, which eventually mysteriously break or disappear. ;-)

You found some wonderful ruby shots elsewhere, my kind of stuff and best collected on camera memory cards.

I never thought of Valentine's Day as an affront to all the folks who think that loving gestures should be spontaneous and randomly spread throughout the year. It's for those dumb schmucks who never think of it the rest of the year, so at least their sweetie might get some small token sometime. Perhaps, my opinion is swayed because these kinds of things came almost exclusively from my father, and I'd be grateful for about anything. ;)

Oh, and I think the pic of the crab is my fav. :)

Even mantled in snow, there's never a bad time for the beach.

And Valentine's Day? Pfft. I'd say you nailed it square-on. Why don't they just call it what it is: Hallmark Day?

Nice selection. My favorite is the third one. I wish I could go to the beach.

Who wouldn't follow the red crab/lobster to the beach? Good to see the storm fence up, hopefully reducing the erosion of the always beautiful Jersey beaches...

Your beach pictures are wonderful.

I tend to agree about Hallmark stores. It is possible to find some worthwhile items if you look, but overall, the stores make me want to puke.

Dear Dianne,
Luckily we don't have Hallmark.
I have no intention of buying anything for Valentine, except for maybe a bottle of champagne and some strawberries.
Hopefully my husband will want to share..
Kidding, I know he will.
Beaches are my kind of place too.
Just the sound of the rolling waves.
It's so soothing. Like being in a different world.
The best things in life still remains free.

Oh, I just love, love, love these! You captured red in unexpected places. I really love the second one. Really. I'm going to go back and look at them some more.

I don't do Hallmark, but I love Valentines Day, and I love your photos!

I agree about Valentine's Day. It also happens to be the day my brother was born, a day that reminds me of much hurt and that I am estranged from him. Such is life. I LOVED your beach shots, especially the first two.

I'm a fellow Grinch then! IMHO VD is a commercial hullabaloo and I, like you, prefer it spontaneous all year round:) Such lovely beach photos, the two seagulls and the red nets is my favourite.

Lovely shots, all! I know what you mean about Valentine's and all the other holidays....

I'm so laughing at recording naughty messages on Hannah Montana cards!!
Valentine's Day - well, it is my birthday and I always have to share it with EVERYBODY!
The sidewalk crab is very cute.

The beach is ALWAYS a better choice than a Hallmark store *shudder*. Love the crab stencil.

We don't celebrate Valentine's Day here, and I don't really miss it.

Beautiful, especially the third one.
Have a nice day !

I love your Ruby beach shots!
Romantic enough for me for Valentine's :)

Dianne, I completely agree with "if you love someone, set them free"...I can't put up with people always invasive around me.

Here, we don't celebrate Valentine's Day. Retailers and advertisers try to instill it as they tried years ago for Halloween. As you said, it's a way to increase sales. And we're a little bit "hermetic".

Following your stylized crab would be the best gift. Happy moments are cheaper than a present and they're worth so much more !

I wonder why do they put orange net to divide the beach ?

Lovely photos. What's with the crab in the first shot? Is it advertising crabmeat, or warning you to not go barefoot?!

I think the third picture, with the seagulls, is brilliant!

Whoa. Where is that beach?! I want to go there. Great pics. Loved the crab stencil.

Hallmark - my thoughts exactly. I'm a collector of stuff but even that place gives me pause.

kay - there's more sidewalk art there - I have to go back and take pics of it all

EG - I love collecting photos :)

cherie - I love when you say "dumb schmucks" ;)

mojo - off season at the beach is my favorite time - I can do without the crowds

ilanadavita - I like that one too - I love the gull's body language

ralph - this town really takes care of things - down the road a bit another piece of this beach is a mess - different town/different practices - and the 2 towns are feuding - residents of messed up beach go to nice beach and those residents are annoyed - always drama

bobbie - I love their cards - a huge selection

felisol - the sound of the water is a favorite of mine too :)

daryl - the wind does help clear my head - goes right thru actually hehehehehe

pagan - thanks!! I'm glad you like them :)

jan - thanks :)

raven - funny how anniversaries can affect us - hugs

pia - those 2 gulls were characters - later on they were following each other and yelling - maybe they're married - lol

paz - holidays are mixed blessing and chore - there is far too much pressure put into them - for me anyday is a good day to be happy, to give a gift, to get together -

carletta - you're the third person I know whose birthday falls on Val Day - I say you shouldn't have to share!!

robin - the US loves its retail holidays!! no wonder we're broke ;)

mamapippa - thanks - seems the 3rd one is the winner :)

nicole - thanks :)

catherine - here's to free happy moments!!
the fencing is designed to help with beach erosion - it keeps the snow from drifting and causing one part of the beach to sink in more than another - and in high winds it keeps the sand from being lost - this beach does it, the beach one town over doesn't and that beach is a mess every spring

jackie - there are also dolphins and gulls and skateboards and kites stenciled on the walkway and in the parking lot
an art project/gift from the local grammar school

ginger - thanks so much!!

annie - it's Union Beach, NJ - a great little town and part of the wonderful miles and miles of the Jersey shore :)

Dianne, first of all, what are you doing leaving me a comment at 3:04 a.m.??
Don't you like to sleep, wonderful, peaceful sleep??

I love the seagulls here - aren't they just perfect for photographing? They seem to be posing when actually they are just being themselves.

That crab is really neat.

Happy Belated Ruby Tuesday, Your Grinchiness. ;-)

My husband and I don't do a lot on Valentine's day. I think we are going to the movies today, because he knows there is one I really want to see. That is love.

I have some very restricted dietary things going on right now, but I can have chocolate. God is good, right :) So maybe my hubby and I will split a Hershey bar Saturday.

Dianne said...

patti - I'm having a terrible time sleeping. I'm like a newborn - I sleep for 2 or 3 hours and then I have to stretch and move around ;)
The gulls were in a very good mood that day.

amber star - chocolate is one of the major food groups to me.
enjoy the movie - and the Hershey bar - and time with your husband - he sounds like a sweetie

Well first up, thanks you for your comment on my Ruby Tuesday collection of shoes, it made me really laugh..."use them as planters", excellent comment.

And your Ruby Tuesday post is wonderful, the beach is always photographable, any season will produce delightful pics, just as you have done. :)

Dear Dianne
Thanks for your kind remarks about Shopper.
He IS such a grouchy looking pussy!
Pia K feels the same way as you do about Valentines Day. It should be all year long!
You went to the beach? Is New Jersey a warm state?
I just admire those sea gulls so much Dianne!
That crab looks pretty grouchy.
Probably hates Valentines Day, eh?
Have a great week Dianne!....Love Terry

PS Ruby Tuesday Friend...I love you!
Why>......just because!
