Camera Critters: 2 Guys Hanging Out

This past Thursday was a clear and sunny day - very windy and cold.

I went by the marina in a town near me to check out the renovations they're making.

I met these guys while I was there and thought they'd like to be part of CAMERA CRITTERS.

Di, I love that cool bird guy! Great captures. Could be a postcard or calendar page. Nice work!

Indrani said...

Ah! I am sure it was waiting to be clicked! Look at that confident look.

Dianne said...

magiceye - thanks!! :)

june - he was! there was another guy who had his back to me and all his butt feathers were standing straight up in the wind. of course he took off just as I had him in focus

ibeati - thanks!! I'm so pleased they came out so clear.

pagan - cool!! thanks so much.

indrani - they are so used to people on the docks and the boats and even cars that they rarely move no matter how close you get
these 2 really caught my fancy - the bottom guy seems to be one of the elders

Great guys! And goodlooking too! What's a marina without seagulls!

I am sure they are ready for the hot summer and beachgoers. They are such pretty birds.

Dianne said...

angie - thanks!!

wil - I agree, as pretty as the rest of the place is I love watching the gulls

cece - lucky for them the place is busy all year round and everyone feeds them

The bottom fella looks a bit mean - I wouldn't want to be eating chips near him!

Dianne said...

jackie - he was just hunkering down - the wind was right in his face
I also think he's one of the older guys - he seemed to be in charge

I love how you can see the details in the coloring!

Glad you braved the cold and wind for us - these are terrific.
I love the second one and its pink beak.

Dianne said...

mimi - I know! my new camera is such a pleasure and he let me get close :)

bruce - they were enjoying what warmth the sun could provide
I love your blog!!

sue - they only get excited for food - I can relate lol

b13 - I think he does!! at one point he swooped over the bay and the others sure did give him space

lisa - what a romantic idea! I love it
I tried to get a shot of all of them in line - each one on his own post but I couldn't get a good angle
I'm going to try again :)

carletta - I like his pink too! and the brown
the cold felt good for a bit
then my hands couldn't feel the camera anymore

thank you for stopping by my blog for Wordzzle. Do you participate in it?

I see some very nice shots on your blog.

Hi!
Those are really great Photos!! I like the second guy best. He looks like he's waiting for someone! Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great week-end!

Sherrie

Linda said...

They look a bit cold to me - at least that second one does because he's got that hunkered down look to him. Heck, if I were a bird hanging around in the weather we've been having here, I'd sure be cold!!

Teena in Toronto said...

It's probably too cold for seagulls here right now.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Nice shots of the local inhabitants!

Ah, nice to see gulls. Again, I just don't see them here in the mountains because the lack of lakes.
Wonderful photos, very clear and crisp details.

sherrie - I like him too :)
he's a tough old bird

linda - the wind was wicked and I got the impression he did not like having his feathers ruffled :)

teena - it was about 30 degrees that day although the wind chill was brutal

amanda - thanks!!

michele - I'm so glad they came out as good as they did, the wind was making me shake!

Great shots.!!!!

Living by the sea in New Zealand, I was used to seagulls.

Imagine my surprise, when I moved here to Reno, to find seagulls everywhere....especially since we were miles inland.

AppleDebbie said...

Beautiful shots of the seagulls... they make me want to head down to the beach. Thanks for stopping by!

Lilli & Nevada said...

Great shot you got of them.

These guys are probably keeping track of renovations too. :-)

Jane Hards Photography said...

Compared to the ones we get here these guys re well behaved.

Lapa37 said...

Pretty pictures I really like the fist one.

EG CameraGirl said...

The gulls look cold but I'm sure they feel they must keep strict surveillance over the renovations...just in case any of the workers have any French fries. LOL

Great photo's.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for commenting on my blog!!
Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

I love going to the marina's too to search for and enjoy watching wildlife.

Dughallmor Beagles said...

Wow....i'm not a huge fan of seagulls but your photographs are beautiful! (you can get an ASBOH here if you feed them!) The second one looks to be a baby, if they're anything like the gulls we have here, the plumage is darker and they look bigger and clumsier than the adult birds- weird?
Thanks for coming by our blog, we always appreciate comments and feedback and love that blogging has allowed us to meet such a lovely group of folks from all over!
Again, great shots, the first one is stunning!
Slobbers from a bunch of Scottish Beagles ;o)

I love watching gulls -- how they soar through the air. These fellows are quite handsome!

Oh, very cool. The tail is beautifully colored. It almost looks like a mallard duck.

I've captured a critter here.

Dianne said...

karen - they travel far!

apple debbie - they always make me want to go to Atlantic City lol

lilli&amp - thanks!! :)

michelle - lol!
they're probably concerned where the dumpsters will be

babooshka - they are very friendly!

lapa37 - thanks!!

your EG - lol
not to mention Italian bread, there's a bakery down the road

sara G - thanks!! happy rest of weekend

natural moments - it is very relaxing even when it's cold

dughallmor - wow! and here I thought he was the elder!! so I thought he was in charge and really they were caring for him - that's cool
thanks for such kind words about my photos :)

snap - and the sounds they make!!

CWM - mallard gulls! ;)

What a subtle pose they gave you...first one appears clean while the other seems battered, lol. ENjoy your week!

those are lovely shots and so close too, unless you have a good zoom on your camera lol ;)

thanks for stopping by my cc :)

Seagulls use to be a common sight for me growing up on the New England coastline. Now I an inlander and seldom see them anymore. Your photos brought back the sounds and the scents of the ocean, and some childhood memories at the beach.

Gulls are always such pretty and willing subjects. No waterfront would be complete without them. Nice shots you have here.

Dianne: Beautiful shots of the gulls, nicely done.

Gattina said...

Are this seegull babies, they look so small compared to the once I have seen in England ! They look so cute !

threesidesofcrazy said...

So nice of them to pose for you! Marinas are such great place to get candid shots.

Dianne said...

vienna - there's a lot going on with the battered looking guy! I thought he was the elder, someone else said he was a baby. As I watched him he seemed in charge and he seemed to have a lot to do lol

ladybanana - that's usually what happens to me too but these gulls are so used to us - sometimes they're friendly and sometimes they ignore but they never leave :)

tina - my new camera does have a better zoom but they did let me get close

willthink4 - what a lovely comment, I'm so glad my photos did that :)

salty - thanks! :)

fishing guy - thanks a lot!!

gattina - I think they're babies based on what others have said.

Wonderful photos! It's windy here too, but not cold. I'm so thrilled to be able to 'capture' birds in flight with my new camera. I think you might have seen my pelicans at Small Reflections already. Thanks for the visit.

They're so graceful in the air but sometimes seem a bit awkward and clunky when not.I love photographing gulls but coming up their id is sometimes really difficult. Also I love the setting here. Great camera critters!
