I wish I could tell you what plant this is. I think it is tropical, perhaps a heliconia?
All I know is - it's red and it's pretty.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
RUBY TUESDAY
UPDATE: Thanks to DARYL we now know the plant is a Red Bromeliad - Daryl found it at THIS SITE and I found some added info about it at THIS OTHER SITE
We learn something new every single day!

I used to know what it was but of course I can't for the life of me remember at this point in time as I can barely remember my names most days! But you are right - it's red and it's pretty!
Its a ... umm ... bromiliad .. I think .. my dad had one and said if you put a slice of apple on the dirt and cover the whole thing with a plastic bag it helps make it bloom,

Yup .. spelled it wrong but thats what it is ...
you should visit Chris at Our Vanilla Life - she probably knows what it is, because I think I've seen one in her backyard. http://chriscandjonjroy.blogspot.com/

Awesome shot. Very exotic!
They are beautiful and I never know the name of any plant..LOL
I haven't got the faintest idea.
If it is what I think it is. This is a flower which blossoms when I buy it at the florists, and the spend the rest of its life in my window, being green and brown.
A beautiful, tropical flower, not thriving in arctic windows.
Emphasis on beautiful.
From Felisol
Nothing pretty like that grows in our yard. Our digging ripping running dogs have seen to that.
It sure is beautiful. Really nice picture.
Have a nice day!!
I had a plant like that once. It died. It is pretty though.
Don't know the name of it.
Ain't blogging great? Your original post sounds like I would have written it. "Don't know what it is, but it sure is pretty!"
I'm stoked to see you're gonna be on Pic-A-Theme! I think a lot of the crew from B&W is coming over. I wonder if it'll look right seeing us all together in color? (Though I'll probably still use a bit of B&W just because.)
Bromeliad! Its like related to pineapples...and the flower is not easy to grow...lovely!
Yup, red, pretty and tropical would have been my description as well. ;-)
Happy Ruby Tuesday Dianne.
Sure is pretty. Like your yellow shot down below too. Spring is a-comin!
that is a beautiful plant. Great ruby tuesday!
Such a beautiful flower. The color, in this lighting is almost magenta in tone. The red is great, and Spring will arrive soon. After any winter, the warmer seasons are quite welcome!
linda - I never know what things are called which is why "thingie" is one of my favorite words ;)
daryl - so you're gorgeous and smart! a double threat, thanks for the info :)
tink - Daryl came to the rescue
ilanadavita - and there was only 1 in the whole nursery
rambling - me too :)
felisol - I can't keep any indoor plants, the cats eat and dig - it's not worth the grief
crystalchick - so your yard grows happy dogs - sounds good to me :)
connie - I think they are very delicate
mojo - I should have written down names or taken photos at the garden place - that would have made sense
I'm looking forward to Pic A Theme too - and I'm sure I'll do B&W also :)
kitchen - exactly!! there are 1500 varieties and one is the pineapple - how cool is that :)
patti - pretty is good enough :)
so happy to see you
raven - thanks!! I've been visiting all the garden places so I've got tons of photos :)
mielikki - thanks!! happy RT to you too
I got one of those as a housewarming gift once. It had a magnificent bloom when I got it, but I was never able to make it bloom again. After that of course it gave in to my inevitable black thumb and dropped dead.
robin - everyone says they are impossible to grow so it wasn't your fault :)
gail - thanks!! I love this garden place, they decorate so beautifully and have so many unusual things
I took 200 photos and they didn't mind
This plant is lovely...
it's glorious, spring is definitely in the air.
What a beautiful photo of the bromeliad. It's so vibrant and colorful.
It sure is pretty whatever it is!
How beautiful. I wouldn't mind one of those to brighten up my office :)
bright and beautiful!
It's a beauty, Dianne, no matter what it's name is! Happy Ruby Tuesday! I always appreciate your playing along! :)
How beautiful this blossom is and how nifty I happened by late so I could learn just what it's called.
Hugs and blessings,
